What I learned (paraphrased): "Not only should you and the rest of the band be in the pocket, but ideally over a four bar phrase you're inside, outside, ahead of, lagging slightly behind, and at times hovering magically *right beside* the pocket." I've never played keys in my life yet here I am getting a masterclass in rhythm! 😍 Love your playing Matt!!

I tried these 3 times and i never liked the sound of them. I guess i was always expecting them to sound like a big american synth. So not really sure what they are supposed to sound like. Looks lke youve got it though. ❤

This is great, Matt. I never came across the Jupiter 6 so it was really refreshing to hear its palette - you’ve demoed some really cool sounds, and I agree that as a keys player, and often orchestrator, you need different characters in your arsenal, and this synth has it in spades. It’s not cool at all, which is why it’s great!

I have J6 since 1994. I bought it for next to nothing and must admit I used it as midi controller sometimes to trigger samples from Akai S3200 lol. I know it sounds like blasphemy, but those were different times. Anyway I love J6. it is very specific, it is far from "cold" I hear people call it, and it can do some things not many modern synths can do. I also have Super 6 and I am very happy UDO was inspired with the J6 architecture but they of course sound chalk and cheese.

Wow, that was a load of nostalgia coming at me all at once! :D Thank you for that. Harsh, edgy buzzing, and also warm, muffled, comforting tones in the same package, what a surprise... I'm not a keyboard player myself unfortunately, always wished I could, heh. I do love the sound of a good synthesizer though! Pretty sure I couldn't afford one of these in good working order anyway, might as well stop dreaming. :P

Hi Matt, I've never understood why people say the Jupiter 6 sounds thin and cold, it isnt, a lot of the problem was the factory sounds, the 6 like the 8 can sound big and warm, the 8 just has the advantage of stereo outs, put the 6 through a stereo out chorus and the program a pad like on the 8 and I promise you it'll fill out a song, I used the 6 a lot when it came out in a studio in Sheffield.

OK, that little progression 0:03 - 0:05 sounds so familiar, but can't find out what it is! I thought something from Paul Hardcastle (the whole intro carries his vibe btw), but not 💯sure... EDIT: OK, of course, Chaka Khan 🤦

I bet that 90% of all Disco, Disco-Funk tracks back in the 80's used the J6 as their go to FX Synth. Great Tips on using the J 6 , inspiring Matt, Thannk you <3 !
